Where To Buy Stagg Jr Bourbon Online

Stagg Jr Bourbon

Every bourbon world has an “easier to find” version of its hardest chase bottle, and for George T. Stagg, that’s Stagg Jr. It follows the same basic philosophy uncut, unfiltered, bottled at full barrel strength but released younger, more frequently, and in larger quantities than its once-a-year, BTAC-exclusive namesake.

How It Relates to George T. Stagg

Both bottles come from Buffalo Trace and share the uncut, undiluted barrel-proof approach, which is exactly why they’re constantly compared. The real difference comes down to age and release frequency: George T. Stagg is released only once a year with an older age statement as part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, while Stagg Jr. is bottled without an age statement and released multiple times throughout the year, making it a realistic option for drinkers who want that barrel-proof intensity without needing to win a fall allocation lottery.

What Makes It Different From a Standard Bourbon

Like its namesake, nothing here is proofed down or filtered before bottling. Whatever strength the selected barrels reach is exactly what ends up in your glass, typically well above 120 proof, sometimes touching 130 depending on the batch. That means, just like George T. Stagg, Stagg Jr.’s exact proof shifts release to release, and collectors track specific batch numbers rather than treating it as one fixed product.

What’s Actually in the Bottle

Expect dark caramel, cocoa, and dried cherry up front, with heavy oak char and black pepper spice intensified by the high proof, finishing long and warm with lingering vanilla sweetness underneath the heat.

Why Stagg Jr. Exists at All

Buffalo Trace created Stagg Jr. partly as a response to how impossible George T. Stagg had become to find at retail price. It gave enthusiasts a way to regularly access that same barrel-proof, uncut experience without needing to chase a once-a-year release and it’s succeeded well enough that it’s built its own dedicated following independent of its more famous sibling.

Who This Bottle Is For

This is a great option for anyone who wants to understand what barrel-proof, uncut bourbon actually tastes like without waiting for an annual lottery, or for drinkers who’ve tried George T. Stagg and want a more regularly available version of the same intensity. Like most barrel-proof releases, a few drops of water go a long way toward opening up the flavor.

Q: Is Stagg Jr. easier to find than George T. Stagg?
A: Yes, generally. It’s released multiple times per year in larger quantities, making it considerably more attainable than the once-a-year Stagg release.
